Launching the Project

We now invite Sisters of Earth to join us in launching the CHILDREN OF THE UNIVERSE PROJECT. It's near ready for flight with your help and awaiting the final completion of the packet resources!

While we have a few already chosen, can you assist us to select 50 educators - of children 6-13 years-old - who will be the first to pilot the project beginning early in 2025? It's fine if two or more are from the same learning community. The educational packets will be a rich and beautiful gift to each special educator, with its many resources emerging from the creativity of Sisters of Earth both in written forms, art illustrations, music and song!

Imagine being a teacher of young children whose inquiring minds seek the biggest answers to their quest to understand the meaning of everything and from where it all came. And you've been gifted with this educational packet and can read them Jennifer Morgan's Trilogy that starts with 'Born with a Bang,' or teach them Joyce Rouse’s/Earthmama's 'Fireball' song and dance with the passion of our cosmic story, or sing together 'Love Large' and talk with them about how loving really large can help heal earth and each other (and where they may see this happening already!). Or take them outside on a warm beautiful day, as Donna Gibbs suggests in The Seamless Universe, for a direct encounter with the soft grass, moss, rocks, trees and sky, imagining sprouting from our wellspring Earth one with billions of interconnected creatures, and to speak what they most love about our earth home and universe.

And as their teacher you are also being nourished by this packet when you watch the Journey of the Universe film and read the book. In A Place of Our Belonging: A Work for Children and Educators Mentored by Thomas Berry, edited by Peggy Whalen-Levitt, you find time honored practices that cultivate an intimate presence with the Earth. In Only the Sacred, also edited by Peggy Whalen-Levitt, you will journey with twenty-three educators through their stories and practices where a new understanding of a sacred universe is actualized in diverse educational settings. And you encounter more of Thomas's vision for the children within Carolyn Toben's Recovering a Sense of the Sacred. Sinking into the poetic telling of the Universe Story in Betty Kissilove's Great Ball of Fire!, the story takes an even deeper hold within you and inspires yet more creative ways to communicate it to the children in your care.

Oh for the magic and wonder of this process in the hands of 50 amazing educators! Let’s all imagine the soul-full ripple effects of The Children of the Universe Project!
